GUERRILLA GRAPPLING
FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS
1
What is Jiu Jitsu?
Jiu-Jitsu is the world’s most effective and complete method of self-defense. It is designed for a smaller person defending against being assaulted by a larger, stronger attacker utilizing leverage and intelligence to defend, submit, or escape the attacker. It is designed to work for people of all ages and all walks of life. Our student base ranges from age 6 to 60; it’s never too early or too late to start your journey.
2
What ages are appropriate for training at Guerrilla Grappling?
We accept students starting at 5 years old and some younger on a case-by-case basis. Attention spans vary. Some adults train well into their 90’s, but the training significantly changes with age.
3
What should I wear to my first class, and what time should I arrive?
Wear basic athletic clothes. We recommend compression clothes where appropriate because you may be rolling around on the mats. We have plenty of loaner Gis in stock for average sized humans, and we have tons of them for sale in all sizes. You should arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for your first class so that you have time to sign a liability waiver and choose a loaner Gi.
4
How many times a week can I train on a standard 'unlimited' membership?
Our memberships are completely unlimited. This means you can train as many times per day as you like. Some students come 3x per day, and others come once per week. It is all up to personal preference.
5
Do you have a competition team?
Jiu Jitsu is first and foremost a method of self-defense. While the sporting aspect is very fun and popular, our primary concern is to teach our students how to realistically defend themselves in a combative situation. However, for those who wish to compete in sport Jiu Jitsu, we do encourage competition and love competing in local and national tournaments.
6
Do I need a uniform?
Yes. We teach in the traditional Jiu Jitsu Kimono or Gi. You do not have to buy our Gis or wear our GGA patches. Your Gi must be clean, serviceable, and appropriate. No vulgar language or patches. The same rules apply with No Gi rash guards and shorts.
7
Do you offer any price discounts?
Yes. We offer discounts to active-duty military personnel, and combat veterans. We also have family rates.
